Super awesome! Thanks to artist Ben Bishop for the link!

[VIDEO] Drew Struzan on Tracing for Photo-Realism

Why do I appreciate him being up front about it?

Because there are a lot of artists doing it who aren't and people think they're magicians because of how perfect it looks and are buying their work without knowing. I've seen some art collectors who when they find out it is traced they're let down. Some don't care. I personally like things drawn from scratch and like creating my art that way, but see how if you've been doing it for years, you're up front about it, and have nothing to prove about your drawing abilities, then sure. Go for it. Rendering/coloring is fun and relaxing. And if what you're going for is perfect photorealism it doesn't really matter if you're shifting your eyes back and forth from the reference, carefully getting the lines in the perfect place or just tracing it. One takes longer, but still the result is the same, a drawing of a photo.

I really enjoy Struzan's work and style. He's of course, created some of the most iconic images in entertainment history and inspired me a ton while I was growing up. He breathes a lot of life into his tracings and rendering photorealistic is still very difficult and takes a lot of talent, PLUS his compositions, style, and color choices are awesome and really what draws the eye anyway. And I'm fairly certain he could draw photorealistic from scratch, but does it to save time. It's all beautiful to look at, and like he said, that's really what matters: the final product. I just hope that we don't get so separated from creating art from scratch and photoshop filters get so good that people stop trying to create it and go that route.

Anyway, check out some awesome Drew Struzan art!! Click to buy it! I really want that The Art of Drew Struzan Book!

This might be a self portrait or it might be fan art in his style. Anyone know? Well done!

BIG HITTERS Comic Book Animated Short by Travis Sengaus!

From the new Comic Series from Jonathan Goff and Travis Sengaus.
Animated and Directed by Travis Sengaus! Impressive work!

BIG HITTERS is an action/adventure comic book series created by Jonathan Goff (writer) and Travis Sengaus (artist).

In a futuristic society, a government teetering on collapse has sanctioned the use of "Hitters" (or hitmen) to help clean up the galaxy following a particularly brutal and far-reaching interstellar war.

Our tale centers on a pair of Hitters (Fresh and Mack) and their day-to-day misadventures through the seediest of underworlds and darkest of back alleys as they search for the next big hit and the true meaning of vengeance.

MOVIE: Silent Hill: Revelations 3D Trailer, Clip, Synopsis, Poster, & Still Frames!

All the stuff you came to see comes after my ramble. ;)

Man ... Not sure what to think of this trailer. I typically like just about everything but this looks a bit ... "Final Destination-y" compared to the last one and the games. More Hollywood teen horror than ... just awesome horror. And lots of stuff just for the sake of 3D. I even sorta like the Final Destination movies for what they are. Hmm... maybe this is a rare case where I'm just too close to the subject material. Back when my wife (comics artist, Renae De Liz) and I were just getting to know each other she visited from Oregon to where I was living in Kansas and our first date was to see the Silent Hill movie. Then about a year later after she moved with me, we started playing through the games starting with Silent Hill 4: The Room and they were awesome! Also Silent Hill is said to be in Maine (which is where we live) as we're finding out now while playing Silent Hill: Downpour and we drive an awesome silver Jeep Liberty like the main character in the first movie. It was the first car we both agreed on. So ... maybe I'm being a Silent Hill geek. I'll of course watch the heck out of it and then decide and I'll probably accept it for what it is, but still. Would have been nice to see a mind-blowing, awesome, terrifying trailer. Either way, I'm pretty excited to see a new movie coming! Just hope it does well enough for another!

WHAT DO YOU THINK??

Synopsis

The story follows Heather Mason, along with her father, who have been on the run - always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now, on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by horrific nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.

PHOTOS: Renae De Liz & I: Married at San Diego Comic-Con 2009!

Can't believe it's already been 3 years since we got married (7 years together)! Well, not quite because SDCC is a couple of weeks early (we were married on the 26th), but close enough! We're both very excited to enter get past this milestone and enter our 4th year of marriage. This will be the best one yet, I'm sure!

We're not able to make it to SDCC this year, but we'll be back! :D
